Hello,

My name is Mark, and I am the owner of Model Railroad Trains. I wanted to tell you about us, and why I built this site.

Why do I love Railroads and Model trains? I have trains in my blood because I used to be a Carman and worked with the Railroad. I worked in two areas, the first being "The Shop", where I worked on the boxcars. We fixed the wheels, put in new couplers, put new doors on the boxcars, fixed a ladder if it broke, did the air brakes when they didn't work properly or even painted the cars when they needed it.

My other area was “The Yard”, which is split up into two different work areas. One was outbound and the other was inbound. We would identify any defects on incoming trains. If any repairs were needed, we would send them to the “Car Shop” to be fixed. When I worked on the outbound trains, all we had to do was couple the air hoses together.

Today, I work for the United States Post Office. I have a new motto: “Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow….” well you get my drift. I really miss working on the railroad, so talk it about it here. I miss the sound of the locomotives taking off with the cars, and all the weight. It was a pretty sound. I miss the sound of a train going down the tracks.

Sometimes I sit outside on my deck in the summer, reading my favorite magazine-The Garden Railroad Magazine. I hear a whistle blowing off in the distance, then the faint sound of it coming closer up the tracks, until it is at its nearest point –and that’s when the kid in me comes out. Therefore my future projects are my Garden Trains. You can read more about those on the Model Train Scale pages
